Join us as UC Davis assistant professor of Chicano/a/x Studies presents her new work: La Gente: Struggles for Empowerment and Community Self-Determination in Sacramento. The book (University of Arizona Press, 2020) traces the rise of the Chicana/o Movement in Sacramento and the role of la gente, or everyday people, in galvanizing a collective to seek lasting and transformative change during the 1960s and 1970s. In its efforts to be self-determined, la gente resisted multiple forms of oppression at school, work sites, and in their communities.
