Let's Talk About: Banned Books

6:00 PM - 7:30 PM

Event Details

Join us for "Let's Talk About: Banned Books" on May 25th at 6:00pm. In 2021, the American Library Association's Office of Intellectual Freedom tracked 729 book challenges, or the attempt to ban books from public access, the largest number on record. How does that impact you and your right to access material? This event will be a panel discussion between library staff members, students, a teacher and an author, who collectively bring a wealth of knowledge on this topic and its impact on our community. Register now to hear about what it's like to have your book banned, what intellectual freedom means, how local teens weigh in on the issue, and more.

This facilitated conversation will include:
Author Gayle Pitman
Teacher Katherine Hoffmore
Teens Aoife and Seema
Youth Book Selector Justin Azevedo

with an introduction by Peter Coyl, Sacramento Public Library Director and Vice President of the Freedom to Read Foundation.

Registration via Zoom is required. Please click here to register. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing a link to join the session.
